The Sylvia Theater Performing Arts Academy is the exciting new Arts Academy opening its doors on September 6th 2011. Its skilled team vows to take you from 'acceptable to exceptional', while fostering art appreciation and education.
The academy will initially provide music and tech lessons in the areas of piano, guitar, percussion and live production sound, by 4 staff instructors. The new Arts Academy was founded as a result of a successful 8 week summer music lessons program, that proved the need for the theater to continue to offer classes to the community and those in the surrounding areas, so that students did not have to travel outside of York for training.
The classes provided by the academy are suitable for children from as young as 3 yrs old thru adults. Class times will be offered during the week and every Saturday. Most classes are designed for a specific age or level of ability, from beginners to advance. Prices are deliberately accessible and are aimed to make it possible for even people on a very low budget to make the most of the academy. Classes are private to small group depending on the instrument and level of ability. Each student is valued and gets the chance to progress uniquely. The academy will teach both contemporary and historic artistic values in order to produce well rounded performers. One of the goals of the academy is to transform and inspire young people to reach new artistic heights.
Instructors are currently being recruited to offer lessons in a variety of other instruments as well as voice coaching and acting lessons. An Open House is scheduled for Saturday, August 20 from 10am-Noon at the Sylvia Theater, 27 N Congress St in downtown York, for an opportunity to meet the instructors, see the teaching space and register for classes.
